Philadelphia 20 Nov., 1851 My dear Miss Caroline When arriving here this evg (evening) I find I shall barely get to new York tomorrow in time to go on to W.P. where I wish to spend Saturday & Sunday with Custis. If I could only take you there with me I should be happy. I shall return to N.Y. Monday morg. (morning) where I have some business that will occupy me till dinner. In the evg. I will get up to see you & hope to find you all well. I enclose a letter from M who of course has (missing text) companion for you. I will call at the Irving House on my arrival Monday morg. to see if you have left a message for me & if I could find you & you know who hard you are to find in Broadway Miss Caroline, would join you, & attend to my part of the transaction. I shall stop at the New York Hotel however &will be near you at night, with love to all I remain Very truly R.E. Lee
