Lexington VA: 1 Jan 66 My dear Dr_. The Revd S. D. Stuart has been appointed by the Board of Trustees of Washington College; an agent to receive subscriptions, to increase the endowment of the College, for the purpose of extending the present Course of instruction. He proposes to visit Washington City, and desires the acquaintance of some gentleman of note to whom he can refer in case of necessity; & with whom he may consult. Knowing no one, on whom he may __?__ safely rely for advice & information than yourself; I take the liberty of introducing him to you. The success of his mission, will enable the Trustees of the College, to place the Institution on a foooting to meet the urgent wants of the Country; a measure which I have much at heart: May I therefore ask for him such attention as you may be able to give. With sentiments of great respect (Page 2) I am most truly yours R E Lee Dr Thos: Miller H St: Washington City
