I do not recollect the publication of a letter of mine such as you describe in the years 1865 >66.  I never wrote a letter for publication though some without any agency get into the papers.  A reply to a letter of Genl Rosecrans, written on the 26 of last Aug: at the White Sulphur Springs, published in some of the papers, contains an expression of my opinion on the subject to which your refer, & may be the letter about which you inquire
