Camp Stonewall Brig Nov 25th/63 Dear Sister: I have just finished a hard day's work, throwing up cannon pits and consequently feel somewhat tired, but as I may not have another opportunity of writing soon I thought I would write a short note this evening. Meade is evidently determined to try another "On to Richmond" with his soldiers stirred up, by the Yankee lies about our starving their prisoners in Richmond, but we are prepared for them and they will meet with such a defeat as they have never had before as God will not prosper such a cause as Theirs. Our army is in a fine condition and much stronger than most people suppose. I expect that before the close if this week or at furthest the first of next will witness another battle on the banks of the Rapidan. So much for war news. There seems to be a great marrying fever in the Brigade at present, I suppose there would be no chance for an humble private in the A.N.V. but as I have no intentions there I need not care. Love to everybody who thinks enough of me to inquire for me. Your brother A.T.B.
