Sequoya Adrianna Bua-Iam's Photographs from Ambergris Cay, Belize (photographs)
These photographs were taken by Sequoya Adrianna Bua-Iam in May 2014 in Ambergris Cay, Belize.; These photographs were part of the Study Abroad Photo Exhibit on October 14, 2014.; Sequoya Adrianna Bua-Iam is a member of the class of 2017 of Washington and Lee University.; Student statement about their experience: "My time in Belize was literally one of the best times of my life, and I will never forget it. In fact, I often find myself daydreaming (not in class of course) about all of the amazing sites and activities I was able to see and do there. Not to mention, it was an incredible financial deal-practically a steal!
As someone who is interested in both biology (especially marine) and geology, this class was the perfect combination for me. I decided to take this course as a way to solidify my interest in these two subjects as a possible career path. I live in a state with no coast and don't often get to enjoy such marine environments. This was actually my first time seeing a coral reef! The hands-on/in the field approach definitely peaked[sic.] my interests even more so. Now, I have the reassurance I was seeking.
Highlights: swimming in bioluminescence, seeing manatees, climbing a Mayan temple, making new friends...everything!
It was an international experience in which I learned numerous interesting facts, experienced a different culture, conducted my own research project, bonded with fellow W&L students (whom I didn't know beforehand), and went on adventures every day! All of this said, for those interested in studying abroad...go!"

Joseph Eugene Burns's Photographs from Europe and Africa (photographs)
These photographs were taken by Joseph Eugene Burns in June and July of 2014 in Seville. The program was Spanish Studies Abroad at the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies (Seville).; These photographs were part of the Study Abroad Photo Exhibit on October 14, 2014.; Joseph Eugene Burns is a member of the class of 2017 of Washington and Lee University.; Student statement about their experience: "I studied at the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies through the Spanish Studies Abroad program stationed in Sevilla, Spain. The flamenco and Catholic styles fused with the Muslim influences from the Islamic conquests of Spain made this traditional Spanish city a particularly interesting place to study. I took a Spanish history class taught in Spanish along with a grammar and conversational class. The southern proximity of Seville made excursions to neighboring countries possible and convenient. Experiencing the cultural differences in Portugal and (especially) Morocco was an eye-opening experience. Traveling to a different country with a different culture has enabled me to better grasp my own cultural identity. This summer taught me so much about myself and I hope to travel again (anywhere!) as soon as possible."

Christian Phillip Zanetis's Photographs from Europe (photographs)
These photographs were taken by Christian Phillip Zanetis during the summer of 2014. The courses were Emerging Markets in Riga, Latvia and Global Banking and Trading in Copenhagen, Denmark, organized by DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad).; These photographs were part of the Study Abroad Photo Exhibit on October 14, 2014.; Christian Phillip Zanetis is a member of the class of 2016 of Washington and Lee University.; Student statement about their experience: "My abroad experience was incredible. This summer I studied Global Banking & Trading in Copenhagen, Denmark and Emerging Markets in Riga, Latvia. My emphasis in Denmark was on European equity and currency markets paired with an overview of the “Next 11” countries. I gained knowledge on how to trade foreign currencies, equity derivatives, options and perform technical analysis. In Riga, I developed an entry strategy for Vestas Wind Systems and assessed the opportunities in Latvia for companies from the United States. I also had the opportunity to travel to Norway and to various cities in Denmark. I met so many great people and saw so many great things. Traveling really does broaden the mind and I would definitely recommend studying abroad to others. I loved it so much I will be returning to Denmark this October to compete in the Nordic Trading Competition! "
