| dc.description.abstract | This paper takes up the issue of the large racial gap in infant mortality in the United States. After citing data that demonstrates such a gap exists, the paper proceeds to explore factors contributing to and the many causes of the problem. Although the causes of the racial disparity in infant mortality may be difficult to determine with certainty due to their interrelatedness, and there may be controversy as to which causes are credible and which are not, we must determine the causes of the problem in order to identify possible remedies.
