I begin with an overview of domestic violence in society as a whole and its connection with welfare. I will examine recent welfare policy, specifically TANF, and explain the ramifications it has had and continues to have on women who have experienced domestic abuse. Finally, I will look at the Wellstone/Murray Amendment, developed specifically to address the issue of domestic violence, and discuss the positive and negative aspects of this amendment. It can be improved. Domestic violence is an important, yet frequently ignored problem in our society that must be addressed, especially in the context of welfare. Welfare has significant potential to assist women in domestic violence situations. [From introductory section]en_US
