Coll. 0066 – Blaine Family Papers, 1861-1905

 

The papers of the Blain family of eastern Virginia include a diary, 1861-1863, of Mary Randolph Blain, a digital version of which is included here. The collection, housed in Special Collections and Archives, also includes 3 letters, 1863-1905; an account of the Battle of the Wilderness; a muster roll of Jackson's Battery of Horse Artillery, Army of Northern Virginia. The Civil War diary of Miss Blain gives a picture of civilian life on the York River, Gloucester County, Va. where she taught school, and of Williamsburg at her father's house in the summer of 1862
