Thesis; [FULL-TEXT RESTRICTED TO WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY LOGIN] Chelsi M. Hewitt is a member of the Class of 2015 of Washington and Lee University. Ultimately, research for this project consisted of two parts: the theoretical and the practical. Because I devised to compose a long work of fiction, I needed to understand the mechanics of writing extended fiction as well as conceptualize the finished product. Therefore, my initial research focused on theory and slowly evolved from this into a broader reading of literature that would (hopefully) share characteristics with my own work. In the process, I managed to integrate these elements into a cohesive composition. [From Critical Analysis]
