This paper argues for the benefits of educational after-school programs in the lives of low-income students. By providing tutoring, assistance with homework, and recreational activities, these programs can help to improve the academic achievements of low-income students and reduce the chance of them engaging in high-risk activities. All of these benefits are provided, while giving students a safe, productive environment during normally unsupervised hours. Research has shown both the academic and social benefits of these programs, which can help to narrow this education gap. [From Closing Remarks]en_US
