dc.description.abstract. . . the first portion of the study will investigate if the characteristics of a midwife's education -- such as formal education, taking a midwifery course, or years of experience -- have a significant effect on producing favorable practice outcomes. In the second portion of the study, I will investigate whether the type of delivery attendant (traditional versus biomedical) is a significant predictor of maternal practices. Through the current study, I seek to both contribute to the resolution of these questions and gain a greater understanding of ways to improve the practice outcomes of rural Guatemalan midwives.
