dc.description.abstract | This thesis will examine the ideal reader's perception of four women who die by suicide in Latin poetry from two different eras: The Golden Age and the Silver Age and it will propose a
analytical framework for examining the tension between which I will refer to throughout as "the living dead." . . . The four case studies will be examined in chronological order of their authorship. Chapter One will consider the case studies from the Golden Age of Latin poetry (70 BCE-18 AD) while Chapter Two will consider the case studies taken from the Silver Age (18 AD-133 AD).
