Results to date look very favorable for the use of potassium hydrazidooxalate in the resolution of racemic ketones. Condensates have been made with several carbonyls, including optically active 3-methylcyclohexanone, and the 1-brucinium salt of this condensate has been prepared. All that now remains is to prepare sufficient 1-brucinium dl-3-methylcyclohexylidenehydrazonooxalate to resolve by fractional crystallization. This procedure is discussed in David Lemal's summer report [4] and in O. B. Ramsay's 1956 summer report [15]. The latter reference discusses the fractional crystallization plan use for the successful resolution of 3-methylcyclohexanone by the use of 4-(4-carboxyphenyl) semicarbazide. [From Summary]en_US
