The purpose of this work was to determine the water or the -OH content of the rubidium pentachloro hydroxy and the aquo salts of ruthenium, and also to acquire the technique of handling ruthenium, especially the analysis of the soalts for the water content. This analysis was done by analyzing for each of the other substances or elements present ; Ru,RbCl,and Cl (with the ruthenium). The total weight of these substances or elements was subtracted from the weight of the sample,in the case of the aquo salt giving the weight of the water present, and in the case of the pentachlorohydroxy salt the weigh t of the -OH groups, or the total percentage of the other elements or compounds present may be subtracted from one hundred percent, thus giving the percent of hydrogen and oxygen present.
